Sports, Drama and More: The Importance of Extracurricular Activities
There are endless opportunities for students to learn new skills and ignite new passions outside of the standard framework of any educational curriculum. Extracurricular activities are an important part of any child's development because they often build on lessons and learnings that begin in the classroom.
Since St. John-Hill Academy believes in students growing, developing, and bonding outside of the classroom, there are a variety of activities available for all types of interests. Take a look below to learn more.
Athletics
Get Active
Joining a sports team has numerous advantages. Physically, it promotes a healthy lifestyle and the development of key physical characteristics. Mentally, it fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and communication abilities, while socially, few extracurricular activities can bring people together like sports.

Treevolution
“Save trees, save the earth; we are the guardians of nature’s gifts.”
St. John-Hill Academy Treevolution aims to raise awareness in the students of the importance of planting and saving trees, express our concern to the environment, and diminish the unfavorable effects of climate change.
Off-Campus Exercise
Jump In
Students today are visual learners, and a field trip allows them to touch, feel, and listen to what they're learning about, [which helps them] build on classroom instruction, gain a better understanding of topics, build cultural understanding and tolerance, and expose them to worlds beyond their own.

Performing Arts
Extracurricular activities, in essence, allow your child to learn something that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Directly, that skill could serve as the foundation for a hobby or passion that will enrich their lives for many years. Playing sports or learning an instrument, for example, could lead to hours spent doing something they enjoy.
Aside from that, extracurricular activities instill important skills and personality traits that can be applied in other areas of life. Using the same examples, sports play an important role in the development of teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. A musical instrument necessitates perseverance, hand-eye coordination, and, most importantly, creativity.
Visual Arts
Visual arts education helps students understand fundamental skills such as reading and writing, which are important in everyday life. It also aids in better communication with others, whether through language learning, higher quality speech, or even better body language.
It turns out that learning to express oneself visually can greatly benefit students' emotional well-being as well as their academic progress. According to research, children who participate in visual arts are more comfortable exploring their imaginations and emotions.
